The PE and Sports Premium funding
The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in school.
The PE and Sports Premium funding was introduced to enable primary schools to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities that they provide for their pupils. This academic year Wansdyke Primary School will receive approximately £17,790 which we will use to ensure we develop participation, performance and health and well-being.

Once again this year, we are very lucky to have coaches from Majestic Gymnastics to teach the children gymnastics and to provide a club before school. A group of children from our Reception class have been having lots of fun balancing, jumping and moving around the hall.
Ashton Park Sports Partnership
We have recently joined the Ashton Park Sports Partnership which enables the children to take part in lots of different competitions and new activities. This term boys from Years 5 and 6 are taking part in a 6-a-side tournament with other children in local schools at South Bristol Sports Centre. In terms 3/4 this will follow on with years 3 and 4, then girls only in term 5. Photos will follow shortly.
Tag Rugby Festival
Selected children from Years 3/4 and 5/6 have been training with our Forever Sports coaches to take part in a Tag Rugby Festival at Broad Plain Rugby Club in March. They have been working very hard as a team as you can see in the photos.
Bristol Sports Rugby /Forever Sport
Every week we are lucky to have sports coaches from Bristol Rugby come into our school to teach the children new skills. Last year, the children were taught tag rugby skills and this year we are working on our netball skills. All of the children in the school have an opportunity to take part in these activities at some point in the year. Here are some year 2 children taking part in a fun netball class this term.
In the summer last year, five of our Year 5 children took part in a Bristol Together Championship where they were twinned with another school in Bristol to form a football team. Although we didn’t quite make it to the final, we were very excited and proud to win an award for ‘Team of the Tournament’ for working so well together. Here are some photos from the day and we are very pleased to be taking part again this summer.
Over the last two years we have been fortunate enough to have a highly trained dance teacher come to the school to spend a day teaching the children a particular dance of their choice. The first year we learnt dances related to the Olympic Games and last year our dances were based on a more general theme ranging from Greek dancing to High School Musical. We are very pleased to be having another dance workshop this summer and we are looking forward to adding more photos when this happens.
